Kobzon’s Player
Overview
A music web player for a memorial project dedicated to Joseph Kobzon in Moscow. We linked physical vinyl records installed in the urban space to a digital song library: visitors scan a QR code to open the corresponding track on their smartphones.
Results
Connect each vinyl record to a specific song.
We implemented track selection via a URL parameter. When a link is opened, the player identifies the track ID and loads the corresponding audio file, title, and cover art. This allows us to use a single website for all QR codes while providing a dedicated entry point for each song.
Enable in-browser listening.
We built the playback using HTML5 Audio with custom UI controls: play/pause, seeking, volume adjustment, and track switching. The progress bar and time indicators sync with the audio player's events. Listening requires no app installation or registration.
Combine individual tracks into a music library.
We added a comprehensive playlist that highlights the active track. Switching tracks updates the audio and on-screen information without reloading the page. When a song ends, the next one plays automatically, and at the end of the list, playback loops back to the first track.
